Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal Leads Meeting on Devolution of Pak PWD Projects to Provincial Authorities

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, presided over a critical meeting today, focusing on the decentralization of Pak Public Works Department (Pak PWD) projects to provincial governments as part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). The session aimed to assess the progress of this significant administrative shift.

According to Press Information Department, the Additional Secretary of Housing and Works briefed attendees on the current status of project transfers. It was reported that all projects earmarked for Punjab have been successfully transitioned to its provincial government. Minister Iqbal highlighted the urgency of accelerating the process for other provinces, particularly instructing that the transfers to Sindh be finalized within the next five days. He underscored the importance of ensuring that the projects in Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are completed promptly by the following week.

A structured mechanism for these transfers has been put in place, and the Minister mandated that any non-cooperation should be immediately reported to the Director General (DG) Pak PWD of the concerned province and relevant departments. This measure is intended to bolster accountability and facilitate seamless project handovers across all regions. Minister Iqbal reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to supporting provincial stakeholders throughout this transition, aiming to enhance governance and operational efficiency at the provincial level.
