Islamabad: The Federal Directorate of Education, led by Director General Syed Junaid Ikhlaq, visited six rural schools in Islamabad today to assess damages from recent heavy rains and to promote enhancements in educational facilities.
According to Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training announcement issued on 01 September 2024, the delegation included the Area Education Officer (AEO) of Bhara Kahu, the Director of Planning and Development, the Director of Coordination, and the Project Director of the Project Management Unit (PMU). The group’s assessment focused on the urgent need for facility repairs and the implementation of government initiatives aimed at improving the quality of rural education.
During the visit, Director General Ikhlaq announced a detailed 10-day restoration plan, which includes whitewashing all affected institutions, electrical fixes, washroom repairs, and window pane replacements. These measures reflect the government’s ongoing efforts, previously bolstered by parliamentary inspections, to uplift educational standards in rural areas.
The restoration strategy also encompasses the addition of new facilities and resources. Key projects assigned to the Project Director include setting up a computer lab with 40 computers at Islamabad Model College for Boys (IMCB) Maira Begwal, constructing a boundary wall at Islamabad Model School for Boys (IMSB) Phulgran, and establishing a library at Islamabad Model School for Girls (IMSG) Phulgran.
Further initiatives highlighted by Director General Ikhlaq include increasing rural school enrollments and enhancing educational facilities through the recruitment of additional teachers, the introduction of a school meal program, the establishment of Mother and Child Health Centers, and the creation of IT labs to boost digital literacy among students.
To ensure these plans are effectively implemented and to maintain accountability, the Director General mandated that AEOs conduct weekly visits to schools within their jurisdiction. He also discussed plans for innovative programs aimed at improving retention and motivation among rural teachers. FDE officials will be stationed at the six schools visited to oversee the repair and enhancement efforts.
Director General Ikhlaq emphasized the critical role of community involvement in the development of local schools and encouraged staff to ensure full attendance and active participation in the new initiatives. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that students in rural Islamabad have access to safe, well-equipped, and equitable educational environments.
