Islamabad: The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan (FCCP) has been unanimously admitted as an Observer to the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY), marking a significant step in the Court’s international engagement.

According to Press Information Department, the Conference of Constitutional Jurisdictions of the Turkic World (TÜRK-AY) was established on April 27, 2022, in Istanbul, Türkiye, to promote cooperation among constitutional courts in the Turkic region. The organization includes Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan as full members.

The decision to admit the FCCP as an Observer was communicated through a letter from Mr. Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Term President of TÜRK-AY, to Honourable Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan of Pakistan’s Federal Constitutional Court. The admission was approved unanimously by TÜRK-AY’s Member Courts under Article 10.4 of the organization’s Statute.

In his letter, Chairman Abdullayev congratulated the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan and expressed confidence in the Court’s ability to contribute meaningfully to TÜRK-AY’s work. He highlighted the expectation that Pakistan’s participation would enhance cooperation and mutual understanding based on shared constitutional values.

Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan described the admission as a reflection of international confidence in Pakistan’s constitutional jurisprudence and emphasized the Court’s dedication to promoting the rule of law and judicial cooperation across jurisdictions.

With Observer status in TÜRK-AY, the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan will have a platform to engage with constitutional courts in the Turkic world, exchange judicial experiences, and contribute to advancing constitutional justice through international collaboration. The FCCP is committed to strengthening its global engagement to further constitutionalism and protect fundamental rights.
