Federal and Balochistan Leaders Address Kachhi Canal Restoration in High-Level Meeting

Quetta: In a significant development for Balochistan’s agriculture and economy, a high-level meeting was held to review the progress on the restoration and construction of Kachhi Canal. The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Water Resources Mossadegh Malik, discussed crucial aspects of the project, including the pressing need for swift restoration efforts following recent damages that disrupted water supply and affected local communities.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, the review session featured Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who participated via video link and strongly advocated for immediate restoration efforts under proposal 2 of WAPDA’s plan. He highlighted the hardships faced by families due to the canal’s damage in 2022, which led to migration and economic difficulties. The Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need for restoration to prevent further deprivation and advocated for the acceleration of Phases 2 and 3 of the canal’s development to ensure sustainable water supply and economic stability for the region.

Federal Minister Mossadegh Malik supported the Chief Minister’s requests and directed WAPDA authorities to prioritize the restoration of water flow in Kachhi Canal Phase 1. The meeting concluded with commitments to regular reviews of the project’s progress to address Balochistan’s developmental needs effectively.
