Father-in-Law of Detained APHC Leader Shabbir Shah Dies in Srinagar; Shah Denied Attendance at Funeral

Srinagar: Muhammad Iqbal Rather, the father-in-law of Shabbir Ahmed Shah, a senior APHC leader and Chairman of the Democratic Freedom Party, who is currently detained, passed away today after a prolonged illness in a hospital in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Shabbir Ahmed Shah is incarcerated in the notorious Tihar jail in New Delhi and was not permitted to participate in the funeral prayers of his father-in-law. The funeral, which took place in Doda, saw a substantial turnout, reflecting the community’s support.

The spokesperson for the Democratic Freedom Party issued a statement in Srinagar expressing deep regret over the death. The statement criticized India’s stance on democratic values, highlighted by the denial of Shah’s attendance at the funeral, indicating a significant disregard for personal rights under custody.

Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, the party’s vice chairman, also conveyed his condolences, underscoring the emotional impact of the event on the party and Shah’s family. He extended prayers for the deceased and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family during this challenging time.
