Fatal Lightning Strike and Structural Collapses Highlight Monsoon Toll in Pakistan

Bannu: The latest report from the National Disaster Management Authority highlights the ongoing impact of the monsoon season across Pakistan, including a fatal lightning strike in Tharparkar and multiple structural collapses in Bannu.

According to National Disaster Management Authority, the monsoon has led to a grim tally over the last 24 hours, particularly in Sindh where two casualties occurred in Tharparkar due to a lightning strike. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bannu experienced severe conditions with six individuals injured due to a house collapse. The report detailed the extent of property damage across the province, with a total of 50 homes damaged.

The cumulative data from the monsoon season starting July 1 up to July 12 shows a broader scale of devastation. Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reported multiple casualties and dozens of injuries. In terms of property, 105 houses across various provinces have been recorded as partially or fully damaged, with Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the worst affected.

Relief efforts coordinated by provincial disaster management authorities are underway, with essential supplies such as tents, ration bags, and blankets being distributed in affected areas. The ongoing monsoon season continues to pose significant challenges, as authorities and emergency services remain on high alert for further weather-related incidents.
