Jammu, National Conference President, Farooq Abdullah, has called for an impartial investigation into the recent incidents of killing and torture of civilians by Indian troops at an army camp in the Surankote area of Poonch district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, following an attack on December 21 that resulted in the deaths of five troops, the Indian Army detained several civilians. Reports emerged that three of these civilians were killed in custody, with others severely tortured. The brutality of these actions came to light through a video circulating on social media, showing Indian troops harshly beating civilians and applying chili powder on their wounds.
During his visit to the Government Hospital in Rajouri, Farooq Abdullah met with the injured civilians and their families. He condemned the heinous acts and underscored the need for a comprehensive and timely judicial inquiry into the incident. Abdullah stressed that such violent incidents have no place in any society and must be thoroughly investigated.
In his interaction with reporters, Abdullah emphasized that dialogue between India and Pakistan remains the only viable solution to the Kashmir dispute. He expressed hope for renewed talks following elections in both countries, underscoring that war is not a solution and urging New Delhi to acknowledge this reality.
Additionally, Abdullah criticized the Narendra Modi-led Indian government for its discriminatory policies against minority communities. He warned that such practices by the BJP government could ultimately weaken the fabric of Indian society.
The incident in Poonch and Abdullah’s call for an investigation highlight ongoing concerns about human rights abuses in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
