Jammu, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah has voiced strong criticism against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of aspiring to establish a governance model in India similar to those of China and Russia, where opposition is minimal or non-existent. He expressed concerns over the BJP’s alleged attempts to undermine the Indian Constitution and establish a rule without opposition, echoing authoritarian regimes.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah, while addressing the media in Jammu, articulated fears regarding the BJP’s intentions to dismantle the constitutional framework laid down by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and to emulate the governance styles of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, where dissent is scarcely tolerated. He emphasized that the INDIA bloc, a collective of opposition parties, would resist any efforts to erode the Constitution and democratic principles.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks criticizing the Congress for its historical decisions regarding the Katchatheevu island, Abdullah shifted focus to the current administration’s handling of territorial disputes with China. He highlighted the alleged encroachment by China in Ladakh, questioning the government’s silence and inaction on the matter.
Abdullah pointed out the ongoing dialogue between India and China, which has yet to yield a resolution to the territorial encroachments in Ladakh. He also raised concerns over China’s recent actions of renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh, a territory India holds sovereign but which China claims as its own. His critique extends to the Modi government’s apparent reluctance to confront or discuss these pressing issues publicly.
The National Conference leader’s statements underscore the growing tensions within Indian politics, where debates over territorial integrity, governance models, and the role of opposition parties are increasingly coming to the fore. Abdullah’s call for a more responsive and transparent approach to these challenges reflects a broader demand for accountability and dialogue in India’s democratic process.
