Farooq Abdullah Calls for Unity to Preserve IIOJK’s Identity

Srinagar, National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah has made a passionate appeal to the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to unite in the face of challenges to secure their distinctive identity. This call to action comes in response to the changes imposed by the BJP-led government on August 5, 2019, which Abdullah and his supporters view as an unjust erasure of the region’s autonomy and rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a gathering with party workers in Srinagar, Abdullah emphasized the importance of an intensified public outreach to educate the populace on the systematic dismantling of democracy and institutional integrity by the current administration in New Delhi. He reflected on the region’s history of diverse religious, ethnic, and cultural coexistence, warning against efforts to sow division among its people.

Abdullah’s discourse highlighted the administration’s attempts to undermine the unity that has been a hallmark of the state’s identity. He stressed the necessity for concerted efforts on multiple fronts to reclaim the region’s unique character and principles. Moreover, Abdullah encouraged the people to transform their grievances into a constructive force to oppose the BJP and its affiliates in upcoming elections, framing the vote as a critical opportunity to express their rejection of the August 2019 actions.

He underscored the elections as a battleground for defending the region’s pride, character, and the rights to land and employment, urging a collective stand against the unilateral decisions made by the BJP government. This appeal aims to galvanize the residents of IIOJK to actively participate in the democratic process to safeguard their heritage and rights.
