Farooq Abdullah Calls for End to Direct Rule in Jammu and Kashmir, Cites Regional Hardships

Srinagar: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, strongly criticized the central government’s direct administration of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), highlighting the severe repercussions on local residents’ daily lives. During a meeting with party delegates in Srinagar, Abdullah outlined a myriad of socio-economic challenges exacerbated by the lack of local governance.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah detailed the critical issues faced by the people in IIOJK, including inadequate basic services like electricity and water, failing infrastructure, and poorly maintained health facilities. He particularly noted the high unemployment rates among the youth, describing their desperation and disillusionment with unfulfilled governmental promises.

The veteran politician argued that the region’s administration by bureaucrats—who lack accountability to the local populace—has neglected the genuine needs and aspirations of the residents. He called for the restoration of democratically elected governance in IIOJK to ensure that the local population’s concerns are addressed and managed by accountable leaders.
