Jammu, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah emphasized the importance of a meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and India for ensuring regional peace. This statement comes at a time of heightened tensions and ongoing conflicts in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Abdullah, while addressing the media in Shopian, highlighted the necessity of direct communication between the two nations. He pointed out the futility of past conflicts, noting that the four wars fought between Pakistan and India had not led to any significant change in the borders. He stressed that further wars would not yield beneficial results and could lead to severe repercussions, particularly for the people of Kashmir.
Abdullah expressed his concerns over the recent civilian casualties in Poonch, underscoring that counter-terrorism efforts should not inflict harm upon the local populace. He advocated for a strategy against terrorism that involves and has the support of the people, urging that such regrettable incidents should not recur.
In a separate interaction with reporters in Poonch, Abdullah called for the swift restoration of statehood to occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the prompt conducting of Assembly elections. He expressed his concern over the delay in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of respecting and understanding the aspirations of the local population. He reminded that the last elections were held in 2014 and the people are eagerly awaiting their next opportunity to vote.
Abdullah’s statements reflect a growing call for peaceful resolutions and democratic processes in the region, highlighting the urgent need for dialogue and understanding between the conflicting parties.
