Fact-Check Dispels Rumors of Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Dhaka: A recent fact-check has debunked allegations of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, clarifying misinformation spread by social media videos.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a video circulated by Indian Hindutva groups claimed that Hindus in Bangladesh were subjected to violence and forced to leap from rooftops to escape brutality. However, the fact-check report clarified that the video, dated August 5, 2024, misrepresented the events. It actually shows an incident at a police building in Keraniganj, Dhaka, unrelated to any religious violence.

The footage in question captured scenes outside the office of the Detective Branch (DB) South, Dhaka Zilla, following public unrest triggered by the fall of Sheikh Hasina from power. The unrest was primarily due to police actions against civilian and student protests, as reported by Vartha Bharati. Notably, the building’s nameplate, clearly marked “Bangladesh Police,” confirms that the video depicts a law enforcement facility and not a scene of religious conflict.
