Srinagar: Experts and political analysts are raising alarms about a potential genocide of Muslims in India, highlighting an escalation in persecution and violence under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. The situation includes targeted attacks and systemic discrimination, with recent incidents such as the Delhi riots and the destruction of Muslim properties in Madhya Pradesh underscoring the severity of the threat.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the situation for Muslims in India has deteriorated significantly since Modi took office. The report details an increase in attacks facilitated by Hindutva activists, who are often reported to act with impunity. The 2020 Delhi riots, which resulted in over 50 Muslim deaths, and the bulldozing of Muslim homes in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, are cited as clear indicators of the escalating violence.
The analysts also noted that Muslims in India are subjected to continuous threats, harassment, and violence, with frequent demolitions of their homes and places of worship, especially in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The government’s support of Hindu supremacy, driven by the RSS-backed BJP regime, has led to pervasive discrimination against Muslims in various aspects of life. This discrimination has been intensified by legislative actions such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which have left millions of Muslims at risk of disenfranchisement.
Furthermore, the analysts highlight a disturbing rise in Islamophobia, which they claim has escalated to calls for violence and mass killings of Muslims by prominent Hindutva leaders. Hate speech from BJP figures like Giriraj Singh and Kapil Mishra has reportedly emboldened further attacks on the Muslim community.
The experts are calling for urgent international intervention, urging bodies like the United Nations to take immediate action to halt these hate crimes. They warn that the unchecked spread of Hindutva ideologies not only poses a severe threat to Muslims in India but also to global peace and security.
“The situation is alarming, and the world cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed against Muslims in India,” one analyst emphasized, reflecting a consensus among the experts about the gravity of the crisis.
