European Parliament met with the Members of Pak-EU PFG

Islamabad, November 03, 2021 (PPI-OT):A-10 Member Delegation of the European Parliament led by Mr. Nicola Procaccini, Chair of the delegation for Relations with the countries of South Asia (DSAS), in the European Parliament met with the Members of Pak-EU PFG today, November 3, 2021 at 1000 hours at Parliament House, Islamabad.

DSAS holds regular meetings with the South Asian countries to monitor developments in the regions. Implementation of GSP Plus, issues hampering trade and investment, minority’s rights, promotion and protection of human rights, Labor rights, fundamental freedom, improving the business climate and enhanced bilateral cooperation with EU, remained the focus of discussion.

Ms, Shandana Gulzar Khan, MNA, Convener Pak-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group said that Pakistan attaches immense importance to its relations with the European Union and would like to further strengthen through collaboration in diverse sectors. She emphasized the role of parliamentary exchanges in reinforcing bilateral relations and opening new vistas of cooperation. She reaffirmed to demonstrate consistent progress in the implementation of GSP Plus related 27 international conventions.

Syed Fakhar Imam, Minister of National Food Security and Research appreciated that the interaction between the two sides has increased in recent past. He highlighted Kashmir issue and expressed that human rights of Kashmiris’ must be protected and resolved as per UN Resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

The Members of the Delegation of the European Parliament informed about developments concerning the Journalist Protection Bill, the Forced, Involuntary Disappearance Bill and the Anti-Torture Law. During the discussion on democracy, good governance, rule of law, promotion and protection of human rights, freedom of expression, women’s rights and children’s rights, labor rights, the two sides reaffirmed their strong support for democratic institutions.
