Islamabad: The European Union’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Riina Kionka, met with Federal Minister for Investment, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, to discuss opportunities for enhancing bilateral economic relations and increasing investment flows between the EU and Pakistan. The meeting included high-level representatives from both sides, such as Ms. Ambreen Iftikhar, Mr. Mahmood Tufail, and Mr. Irfanullah Marwat from Pakistan’s Board of Investment, and Mr. Jeroen Willems and Mr. Husnain Iftakhar from the EU Delegation.
The discussions focused on strengthening EU-Pakistan economic and business relations, particularly through the EU-Pakistan Business Network, which involves over 400 EU companies in Pakistan. The EU delegation indicated plans to expand this platform, with announcements of business forums and investment sessions expected soon.
Mr. Jerome Willems introduced the EU’s 25 Champion Companies initiative, targeting high-potential EU enterprises in Pakistan that align with sustainable development and innovation goals.
A strategic dialogue explored Pakistan’s potential as a global investment market, with Ambassador Kionka highlighting the EU’s significant role in global FDI flows. The Minister expressed interest in aligning Pakistan’s exports with the EU Green Deal, aiming to enhance access to EU markets.
Ms. Ambreen Iftikhar noted progress on regulatory reforms and sought increased EU engagement in SMEs and startups. The Minister also urged the EU to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones, while Ambassador Kionka emphasized the importance of regulatory efficiency in investment decisions.
Both parties committed to deepening trade and investment linkages through regular engagement and cooperation.
