Islamabad: A delegation from the European Union, led by Mr. ?erban Dimitrie Sturdza, engaged in discussions with Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights, to strengthen bilateral relations. The delegation included EU Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka and several Members of the European Parliament.

The meeting focused on reinforcing shared commitments to democratic values, human rights, and inclusive development. Acknowledging the positive trajectory of their cooperation under the GSP+ framework, the Minister appreciated the EU’s support and reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to aligning its legal frameworks with international human rights conventions.

Senator Tarar emphasized Pakistan’s progress in promoting democracy and the rule of law amid complex regional dynamics. He underscored the country’s commitment to peace and institutional resilience, highlighting efforts to promote dialogue, tolerance, and constitutional protections for all communities.

The Minister briefed the delegation on plans to establish a National Commission for Minorities with quasi-judicial powers to address grievances and monitor rights violations, aiming to strengthen protections for minority rights. The EU delegation appreciated Pakistan’s reforms in justice access, rights protection, and transparency.

Both parties reiterated their intent to enhance dialogue mechanisms and cooperation in trade and investment, addressing global challenges like climate change and regional instability. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of mutual respect and a commitment to a democratic and equitable global order.
