Islamabad: The Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, Mr. Jemal Beker Abdula, met with the Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, to discuss strengthening ties in the IT and telecommunications sectors. During the meeting, held in Ms. Khawaja’s office, both parties explored matters of mutual interest including digitalization and e-governance.
According to Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the discussion emphasized the importance of enhancing the relationship between Ethiopia and Pakistan in the areas of IT and telecommunications. Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted the rapid progress of Pakistan’s IT and telecommunication sector and outlined the government’s commitment to digital transformation under the guidance of the Prime Minister. She detailed ongoing efforts to digitalize society, the economy, and governance, and the move towards a cashless economy through the promotion of digital payments, which are crucial for economic growth and efficiency.
Minister Fatima also expressed that Ethiopia could leverage Pakistan’s experiences and achievements in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to its benefit. She reassured full support from the Pakistani government to Ethiopia in its digitalization endeavors.
Ambassador Abdula recognized the potential of Pakistan’s IT sector and expressed Ethiopia’s interest in strengthening cooperation, particularly in ICT infrastructure development.
The meeting also saw the participation of the Director-General of International Coordination, Syed Jawwad Ali Sherazi, indicating the high level of engagement and commitment from both nations towards fostering a collaborative relationship in technology and communication.
