Escalation Leads to Ceasefire as Pakistan and India Seek Stability

Islamabad: Pakistan and India have reached an understanding to establish a ceasefire amid rising tensions following recent military engagements, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement comes after Pakistan retaliated against what it described as unprovoked missile strikes by India, invoking its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

Pakistan reported that India launched multiple strikes over a span of several days in early May, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. In response, Pakistan initiated “Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos,” targeting Indian facilities associated with the purported aggression. The Pakistani government emphasized that its military response was precise and restrained, aiming to avoid civilian harm.

The conflict has intensified concerns about strategic stability in South Asia, a region already fraught with historical and geopolitical tensions. The unresolved Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains a central point of contention, with Pakistan accusing India of exacerbating the situation through military provocations and political maneuvers.

Pakistan highlighted its significant role in combating terrorism and called on the international community to prevent India from framing Pakistan as a terrorism hub. It expressed willingness to engage in diplomatic dialogue to resolve outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and urged global actors to assist in de-escalating the situation.

The Ministry underscored Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and emphasized the severe consequences of continued hostility between two nuclear-armed states. It called for responsible actions to preserve regional peace and avert potential catastrophe.
