Dhaka: Recent unrest in Bangladesh has severely impacted Indian nationals, disrupting education for students and bringing cross-border trade with India to a virtual halt.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence has forced many Indian students, particularly those enrolled in medical programs, to leave Bangladesh and return to India, casting uncertainty over the continuation of their education.
Trade activities between the two nations have been significantly affected, particularly at the Petrapole border, which serves as a major land port in India and South Asia. Traders are reporting substantial financial losses, with daily impacts estimated around Rs 150 crore. The annual trade volume through Petrapole and its counterpart Benapole in Bangladesh typically reaches approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
Additionally, the unrest has led to the suspension of internet services in Bangladesh, complicating communication and logistics for Indian traders. Reports indicate that around 300 goods vehicles from various Indian states are currently stranded in Bangladesh, facing challenges related to food, accommodation, and security.
As the situation remains fluid, traders and students alike are hopeful for a swift resolution that will allow normal activities to resume.
