Energy Minister Pledges to Address Pay Disparity for Sindh Government Employees

Karachi: Sindh’s Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, assured government employees that efforts will be made to address any pay disparities between Sindh and other provinces. This assurance came during a meeting held at the Commissioner’s Office in Karachi with a delegation of protesting government employees.

The employees, who have been holding a sit-in outside the Karachi Press Club, detailed their demands to the minister, emphasizing the need for a review of salary structures. Nasir Shah listened attentively, acknowledging the concerns raised by the employees.

He noted that historically, the Sindh government has been proactive in offering substantial pay raises to its employees. However, he committed to further examining and addressing any existing pay gaps compared to other provinces.

With the holy month of Muharram in mind, Shah urged the protesting employees to end their sit-in, suggesting that negotiations could continue after Ashura. He reiterated that the Sindh government has consistently provided higher salaries than other provinces, with significant increases under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party.

To further address the issue, Shah announced the formation of a review committee led by the Commissioner of Karachi. This committee, including Finance Department officers, will evaluate the employees’ demands and submit a report after Ashura, guiding the government’s final decision.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, administrative and police officers, and representatives from the Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA). The delegation expressed gratitude to Nasir Shah for his sympathetic and serious consideration of their demands.
