Lahore, March 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):Inspector General of Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan has said that women have a pivotal role in the development of nations and Punjab Police is proud of all the mothers, sisters and daughters of the nation. IG Punjab said that empowerment of women and providing them equal rights in the society is the top priority of Punjab Police and all possible steps would be taken in this regard.
Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that there is a zero tolerance policy on gender based crimes especially violence, harassment and abuse against women in the province and no effort will be spared to punish the culprits involved in such crimes. IG Punjab said that women officers and personnel of Punjab Police are working alongside men and women are given postings at important places in the field.
Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cells are working in all the districts of the province to ensure the safety of women and provide immediate assistance to them where female police personnel have been deputed as Victim Support Officer to impart possible help and guidance to women in distress. IG Punjab said that the Anti-Women Harassment and Violence cells have taken timely action and arrested 8228 accused in the last six months against whom strict legal action is being taken.
Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that Women Safety App has also been launched in collaboration with Safe City Authorities to provide immediate help to women in which Cyber Crime, Rescue, National Highway, Motorway and other helpline numbers have also been provided.
Through this app, women can easily get help from Punjab Police in any difficult situation. IG Punjab said that more than 1.5 lakh women have so far downloaded the Women Safety App. IG Punjab expressed these views in his special message on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
IG Punjab said that awareness campaign of Women Safety App and Anti-Women Harassment Cell will be launched in women’s schools, colleges and universities while female students, working ladies and housewives are requested to download Women Safety App in their mobiles so that in difficult times they can easily get help and assistance from Punjab Police.
Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that apart from Women Safety App, women can get immediate help from Punjab Police Emergency No. 15. IG Punjab said that RPOs, DPOs have clear instructions to prevent gender based crime and ensure all possible measures under their personal supervision to provide relief to women and no negligence is tolerated in this regard.
