Islamabad: The Emergency Response Committee convened its ninth session to assess the national preparedness and response to the ongoing monsoon rains in Pakistan. The session, directed by the Prime Minister, was held at the National Emergencies Operations Centre, where it was chaired via video link by Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included participation from Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Provincial Minister for Health and Emergency Services Punjab Khawaja Salman Rafique, chief secretaries, and other senior officials from relevant federal ministries, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, and response agencies. The Committee received a briefing on the monsoon situation, covering incidents, human and infrastructure losses, ongoing rescue operations, and rehabilitation efforts.

The session addressed the recent flood situation after heavy rainfall and the measures taken by federal, provincial, and district authorities. The Committee was informed of the hydrological outlook and rainfall forecast, with expected showers over northern and central regions and parts of southeastern Sindh. The National Disaster Management Authority updated on the coordination of humanitarian response efforts with national and international partners.

Participants reviewed the effectiveness of response measures and stressed the importance of coordination among stakeholders to manage and respond to emerging situations. The Convener emphasized maintaining operational momentum, ensuring coordination, and expediting relief and rehabilitation activities as necessary.
