Islamabad: Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has emphasized that the recent imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa aligns with the constitutional framework of Pakistan. During a briefing in Islamabad, alongside Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the Law Minister outlined the federal cabinet’s decision as a necessary measure to ensure the unity and security of the nation.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Law Minister discussed the increase in terrorist activities within the province, citing approximately 8,600 incidents over the past two years—a 195 percent increase from the previous period. He criticized the provincial government, led by PTI, for its lack of action against terrorism, suggesting a focus on political mobilization over security.
The federal cabinet unanimously agreed to impose the emergency to protect citizens and reinforce national stability. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar added that efforts were made to collaborate with the PTI and the provincial government on counterterrorism, but the lack of cooperation prompted constitutional intervention. The emergency, he argued, was necessary due to the provincial government’s alleged complicity with terrorist activities.
The new administrative setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is described as composed of individuals with extensive public service experience, aiming to restore law and order. Improved security, the ministers noted, would facilitate development and stability in the region.
