Washington, D.C.: The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, D.C. held a special webinar titled “Contemporary Challenges to International Law in South Asia: Jammu and Kashmir Dispute and the Indus Waters Treaty” to commemorate the seventh anniversary of India’s revocation of Articles 370 and 35A of its Constitution. The event, observed as Youm-e-Istehsal, aimed to address legal concerns surrounding the Kashmir dispute and the Indus Waters Treaty.

According to Press Information Department, the webinar reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and their right to self-determination in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions. Messages from Pakistan’s leadership were delivered, emphasizing the call for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with international law.

The webinar featured experts such as Ambassador Munir Akram, Ali Unar, Dr. Farhan Mujahid, and Dr. Qamar Cheema, who discussed the implications of India’s actions on the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir and the significance of the Indus Waters Treaty for regional security. Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh emphasized the importance of international law in resolving these issues and urged India to adhere to its legal obligations.

Ambassador Akram highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic standing and strategic partnerships, advocating for the rights of the Kashmiri people and water rights protection. The panelists called for a coordinated strategy to address the challenges posed by India’s policies and emphasized the need for international legal support to maintain the integrity of the Indus Waters Treaty.

The webinar concluded with a consensus on pursuing peaceful and lawful approaches to the Kashmir issue and the Indus Waters Treaty. Ambassador Sheikh reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the struggle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their right to self-determination.
