Tehran: Embassy of Pakistan, Tehran celebrated the 147th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, popularly known as Iqbal Lahori, in collaboration with the Department of Urdu at the University of Tehran today. H.E. Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, Ambassador of Pakistan in Tehran, was the chief guest of the ceremony. Dr. Abdul Raza Saif, the head of Rais Danishkuda-e-Adbeat o uloom-e-Insaani, presided over the ceremony, welcoming all the guests and highlighting Iqbal’s work and his Islamic thoughts.
According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Muhammad Mudassir Tipu praised the love of the Iranian people for Iqbal Lahori. He remarked that Iqbal is a timeless poet whose work in the Persian language ignited the flame of independence in the hearts of the Muslims of the subcontinent. The ambassador expressed his admiration for Rahbar-e-Inqelab Ayat-ullah Khamenai’s respect for Iqbal, noting that the leader has memorized 2,000 of Iqbal’s verses. He emphasized that Iqbal’s thoughts are universal and metaphysical, and his concepts of Khudi, Shaheen, and devotion to Muhammad are unparalleled. In today’s globalized era, Iqbal’s thoughts serve as a beacon for staying connected to cultural roots and values.
Referred to as “The Poet of the East,” Iqbal captured the cultural essence of the entire East, including Iran, Arab, Turkey, and Pakistan, through his poetry. A documentary titled “Poet of the East” was screened, showcasing the life of Iqbal Lahori. Students also recited Urdu and Farsi verses of Iqbal to honor the great poet, philosopher, and thinker. Additionally, an exhibition featuring rare photographs depicting Iqbal’s life and career was organized at the University of Tehran. The event saw participation from a large number of students, scholars, and the Pakistani diaspora.
