Election Commission of Pakistan Sets Conduct Guidelines for Security Personnel in 2024 Elections

Islamabad, In preparation for the upcoming general elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released a comprehensive code of conduct for the deployment of security personnel.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the code outlines several critical responsibilities for the security forces. These include maintaining law and order at polling stations, overseeing the security of ballot paper printing and transportation, and ensuring the safe transit of polling materials and personnel. The ECP emphasizes the need for security personnel to remain impartial and neutral, avoiding any actions that favor or oppose any political party.

The code mandates that a safe and intimidation-free environment be maintained for voters, with security forces facilitating orderly voting processes. Additionally, the personnel are instructed to follow the directions of the Presiding Officer and safeguard the Returning Officer’s office until the consolidation of results is complete. Importantly, the code specifies that security personnel are not to interfere with voters’ identities or their right to enter polling stations. These guidelines are aimed at ensuring a peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral process in Pakistan.
