Islamabad, September 27, 2023 (PPI-OT): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and representatives from Meta, Facebook convened a consultative meeting at the ECP Secretariat in Islamabad. Meeting was chaired by Secretary ECP, Mr. Omar Hamid Khan, Special Secretary Syed Asif Hussain and other senior officers attended the meeting.

Secretary ECP provided an overview of the Election Commission’s initiatives in the realm of media and elections. The Meta, Facebook Team presented four informative videos regarding election bullying, misinformation/disinformation, and media literacy regarding electoral processes. They also emphasized to create mass awareness about participation of Women, Youth, Persons with Abilities, Transgenders Persons and other marginalized groups in electoral processes.

Both organizations had productive discussions, including translating Facebook community standards into Urdu and regional languages to address societal polarization. This meeting is a significant step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s democratic process for the upcoming General Elections.
