Amritsar, March 22, 2022 (PPI-OT):Amritsar-based elderly Sikh man, Balvindar Singh, has set up an example of communal harmony by offering volunteer services at a mosque in the city. Balvindar Singh takes care of the shoes of every worshiper at Masjid Khairuddin in Amritsar during Juma prayers on every Friday. “I was 35 when I started coming to the mosque to watch over the shoes. I visit the site, no matter the weather is windy or clear.”
Besides taking care of the shoes of young and elderly Muslims who visit the mosque, Balvindar Singh also cleans and places them properly. Commenting on the response of young Muslims, Balvindar Singh said, ‘They meet me with great love, and call me ‘Bapu’ (father).”
The elderly Sikh man is respected and appreciated by all Muslims for his selfless services. Muhammad Danish, a regular visitor of the mosque says, “I am 25 years old. Since my childhood, I have been watching Mr Balvindar Singh performing selfless services. This is a good message. Punjab is famous for brotherly relations among different communities.”
Balvindar Singh said he feels pleasure by serving the devotees at the mosque. He said that all religious places are the homes of God. “No one has rebuked me, till now. No one has ever questioned me about why I being a Sikh perform the services at the mosque,” Balvindar Singh said. Instead, he added, the Muslims appreciated him by saying, “Sardar ji, you are doing a great job.”
