Efforts Underway to Secure Salaries for Pakistan Steel Mills’ Religious Staff

Islamabad, The Senate was briefed today on the ongoing efforts to ensure the payment of salaries to the Khateebs and Moazzins of mosques under the administration of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). This development comes in response to financial challenges faced by the entity, affecting its ability to sustain contracts for its religious staff.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi addressed the issue during a Calling Attention Notice in the House. He revealed that the Mosques committee of Steel Mills Town had employed thirty-seven Khateebs and Moazzins. Due to financial constraints, the contracts of thirty-two of these religious officials were not renewed.

In a bid to resolve the issue, a plan has been devised to collect two hundred and fifty rupees from each Steel Mills employee. The funds gathered will be directed towards the salaries of the affected Khateebs and Moazzins, with decisions regarding their contracts to be made following the collection of these contributions.

The session also saw the presentation of several reports from different standing committees. Following the discussions and updates, the House adjourned and is scheduled to reconvene on Friday at half past ten in the morning.

This situation underscores the financial difficulties faced by Pakistan Steel Mills and its impact on the broader community, including the religious figures providing services within the company’s jurisdiction.
