Efforts Underway to Address Education Sector Challenges, Senate Informed

Islamabad, The Senate was briefed today about the caretaker government’s dedicated efforts to tackle problems in the education sector. Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi expressed regret over the sector’s historical neglect by previous administrations and highlighted the current initiatives to improve the situation.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Sindhi noted the alarming fact that twenty million children are currently out of school in Pakistan. The government aims to enhance the quality of education in public schools to increase enrollment. Additionally, the Higher Education Commission has been directed to monitor the quality of education in universities closely.

In response to a separate question, Foreign Affairs Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani informed the Senate that approximately 2.5 million Pakistanis are working in Saudi Arabia, with a helpline established in Pakistani diplomatic missions in Riyadh and Jeddah to address their concerns. He further mentioned that around half a million Pakistanis traveled to Saudi Arabia for employment last year, with the Saudi authorities providing job assurances for those facing employment issues.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Murtaza Solangi announced the formation of a committee to elect a new President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. He also presented a report on the implementation of the 7th NFC Award.

The session ended with the Foreign Minister reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to a two-state solution for the Palestinian conflict, aligned with UN and OIC resolutions. The Senate adjourned and will reconvene on Friday at 10:30 am.
