Education Minister Praises UK Support for Increasing School Enrollment in Pakistan


Islamabad, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui commended the United Kingdom for its role in boosting the enrollment of out-of-school children in Pakistan during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to tackle the significant challenge of out-of-school children in the country. Siddiqui informed Marriott that the government, following directives from the Prime Minister, is planning to declare an educational emergency to address this pressing issue. He emphasized the need for national and international cooperation to make education a central agenda and solicited further support from the UK in this endeavor.



During their discussion, Siddiqui advocated for unified efforts involving all stakeholders, particularly donors, to streamline and maximize the impact of educational initiatives. Marriott, in response, affirmed the long-standing partnership between the UK and Pakistan, which dates back to 1947. She expressed the UK’s willingness to expand its green programme, potentially increasing the enrollment of Pakistani students in UK universities through distance learning opportunities.



Additionally, Marriott revealed that Google Education has shown a significant interest in supporting Pakistan’s efforts to improve access to education. This support aligns with ongoing collaborative efforts to tackle educational challenges in Pakistan.
