ED Likely to Summon Indian Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi for Further Questioning

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Indian Parliament’s Lower House, is expected to be summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for a new round of questioning related to a money laundering investigation involving the Congress-run National Herald newspaper.

According to Kashmir Media Service, officials familiar with the probe suggested that further interrogation of Gandhi is necessary to conclude the agency’s investigation into financial irregularities. Previously, the ED has attached assets valued at INR 75.1 billion associated with the case. The officials requested anonymity while discussing the sensitive details of the ongoing inquiry.

Rahul Gandhi has already undergone extensive questioning by the ED, totaling nearly 40 hours over four sessions in June 2022. These interrogations focused on his involvement with Young Indian Pvt Ltd (YI), a company where he and his mother, Sonia Gandhi, hold majority stakes. The inquiry also covers YI’s acquisition of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), a significant loan from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to AJL, and transactions concerning a property development in Mumbai.
