Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is gearing up for the 2024 general elections with a series of key dates and processes announced, including the start of receiving appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers from today. This step marks a critical phase in the preparation for the upcoming elections.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the process of receiving appeals will continue until Wednesday, with decisions on these appeals expected by the tenth of the next month. The preliminary list of candidates will be displayed on January 11th, providing transparency in the election process. Candidates will have until January 12th to withdraw their nomination papers, and electoral symbols will be allotted on January 13th. The polling for the general elections is scheduled for February 8th.
For reserved seats of women and non-Muslims, the last date for scrutiny of nomination papers is January 13th, and appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officer can be filed until January 16th. The revised list of candidates for reserved seats will be published on January 20th, with a withdrawal deadline of January 22nd. The final list of contesting candidates will be released on January 23rd.
In addition to these preparations, the ECP has established Election Monitoring and Control Centers at provincial, divisional, and district levels, including Islamabad, to address public complaints efficiently. Trained personnel at these centers will promptly resolve election-related issues and maintain communication with relevant officials, including Returning Officers and District Returning Officers.
To facilitate public engagement, individuals can register complaints related to the general elections through email at [email protected], via WhatsApp to 0327-5050610, or through a dedicated helpline at 111-327-000, operating from eight in the morning to six in the evening.
These steps underscore the ECP’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair, and smoothly conducted electoral process for the 2024 general elections.
