ECP Calls for Political Parties to Ensure Women’s Representation in Election Candidate Lists

Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a directive to all political parties, urging them to submit their lists of candidates for general seats, with a specific focus on meeting the requirement of five percent representation of women. This announcement comes as part of the preparations for the General Election-2024.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, The ECP reminded political parties that they are legally obligated to ensure a minimum of five percent representation of women candidates on general seats. This requirement is in accordance with Section 206 of the Elections Act, 2017.

The commission has requested all concerned political parties to furnish the lists of their male and female candidates for general seats, who have been issued party tickets, within five days of the press release. This move is seen as an essential step towards ensuring gender inclusivity and fair representation in the upcoming elections.
