Islamabad, The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced a revised schedule for the upcoming 2024 general elections, specifically concerning the reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies. This revision aims to streamline the electoral process and ensure a fair representation of these groups in the country’s legislative bodies.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the updated timeline for the election schedule includes key dates such as the last day for the scrutiny of nomination papers, set for the 13th of next month. The deadline for filing appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officer is fixed for the 16th of January 2024.

Following the appeals process, the revised list of candidates will be published on the 20th of the next month. Candidates will have until the 22nd of the next month to withdraw their nomination papers. Subsequently, the final list of the contesting candidates for the reserved seats will be released on the 23rd of January 2024.

This revised schedule is part of the ECP’s efforts to ensure an organized and efficient electoral process. The Commission’s decision to revise the schedule reflects its commitment to facilitating a transparent and inclusive election, particularly for the representation of women and non-Muslim communities in Pakistan’s legislative framework.

The move is anticipated to have a significant impact on the political landscape, ensuring that these important sections of the electorate are adequately represented and have a voice in the legislative process.
