New Delhi, Dr. Parakala Prabhakar, a prominent political economist and author, has cautioned that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi is re-elected for a third term, it could result in nationwide turmoil and potentially drastic changes to India’s map. Dr. Prabhakar, the husband of Indian Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, expressed his concerns in his writings and interviews, highlighting the risks associated with Modi’s continued leadership.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Prabhakar’s latest book, “The Crooked Timber of New India: Essays on a Republic in Crisis,” along with an upcoming publication focusing on Modi, underscores his apprehensions about the state of Indian democracy. He criticized Modi’s governance, labeling him as “crazily incompetent” and a “dictator.” Dr. Prabhakar argues that Modi’s leadership has resulted in heightened divisiveness, a growing wealth gap, and a high unemployment rate, comparable to that of war-torn countries like Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen.
In addition to his critique of Modi’s governance, Dr. Prabhakar highlighted the Electoral Bond Scheme as a significant source of corruption, describing it as “the largest scam globally.” He noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been the primary beneficiary of these bonds, with data from the Election Commission of India’s website suggesting a clear bias toward the ruling party.
Dr. Prabhakar predicted that the BJP would not secure more than 230 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, challenging Modi’s claim of winning over 400 seats. He believes that the BJP’s ultimate goal is to establish a Hindu rashtra, an agenda he says was concealed from the public during the 2014 election.
His warnings about Modi’s third term and the potential for turmoil have sparked debate and concern among Indian citizens, political analysts, and opposition parties. As the Lok Sabha election approaches, Dr. Prabhakar’s statements are seen as a call to action for those who wish to protect India’s democratic values and prevent the erosion of its secular foundations.
Dr. Prabhakar’s criticism of the BJP and its leadership has added fuel to the ongoing political discourse, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in safeguarding India’s democratic ideals and resisting the BJP’s Hindutva agenda. With the upcoming election on the horizon, the stakes for India’s democratic future remain high.
