ECC Greenlights Sugar Exports and Allocates Funds for Security and Stability Operations


Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), led by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, convened today at the Finance Division to deliberate and approve significant fiscal measures and policies, including the exportation of additional sugar and the allocation of substantial funds for security projects.



According to Press Information Department, the ECC approved a proposal from the Ministry of Industries and Production to export an additional 0.100 million metric tons of sugar under revised conditions aimed at streamlining the process and addressing procedural delays. Notably, the committee extended the export period from 45 to 60 days and adjusted financial transaction terms, particularly for exports to Afghanistan, to enhance efficiency and compliance.



The meeting, attended by key cabinet ministers and officials, also resulted in the approval of Technical Supplementary Grants totaling over Rs. 22 billion. These funds are earmarked for various security and administrative purposes, including Rs. 276.250 million for the Frontier Corps KP(N), Rs. 1951.995 million for the Reko Diq Project security charges, and a significant Rs. 20 billion allocation for Operation Azm-e-Istehkam during the current fiscal year.



The ECC also directed the Sugar Advisory Board to formulate a comprehensive sugar policy within two months to tackle the sector’s challenges and promote sustainable growth. This directive underscores the ECC’s proactive approach in managing sector-specific issues and ensuring economic stability.
