Islamabad: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has issued a warning about a developing low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, which could potentially escalate into a tropical cyclone. The system is currently located near the Lakshadweep Valley and is showing a trajectory towards the northwest. There is a possibility of the system making landfall along the Pakistani coastline in the third week of October 2024. Residents in coastal areas are advised to stay alert to updates and advisories.
According to Press Information Department, the low-pressure system may evolve into a tropical storm and later into a full-fledged cyclone with the potential to significantly impact the coastal regions of Pakistan. The NEOC, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other relevant departments, is closely monitoring the system’s development and will provide timely updates. The public, especially those in vulnerable coastal regions, is urged to follow official communications and prepare accordingly as the situation develops.
The NDMA is working to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to mitigate the impact of the potential cyclone and to issue further advisories as the need arises. This early alert aims to provide adequate preparation time for the authorities and the citizens to brace for possible adverse weather conditions.
