Dr. Nafisa Shah Elected Chairperson of Gender Mainstreaming Committee

Islamabad: The National Assembly’s Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming has unanimously elected Dr. Nafisa Shah as its Chairperson. The decision was reached during a meeting held in Islamabad, emphasizing a collaborative effort towards gender mainstreaming initiatives.

According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the proposal for Dr. Shah’s election was put forth by Syed Hussain Tariq, MNA, and was backed by Ms. Shaista Pervaiz along with other members of the National Assembly and Senate. With no other candidates in the running, Dr. Shah’s election was secured unanimously.

Dr. Shah expressed her gratitude to the committee members for their support and pledged to work diligently towards the committee’s objectives. Members of the committee extended their congratulations and assured her of their full cooperation.

The previous Chairperson, Mr. Aqeel Malik, resigned due to personal commitments but took the opportunity to highlight key issues related to gender mainstreaming. Mr. Muhammad Mushtaq, an advisor on legislation, provided the committee with an overview of the election procedure.

The meeting saw the presence of several notable figures, including Mr. Aqeel Malik, Syed Hussain Tariq, Mr. Sher Ali Arbab, Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Ms. Shahida Begum, and Senators Rubina Qaim Khani, Saadia Abbasi, and Khalida Ateeb.
