Dr. Mushtaq Khan Affirms Self-Determination as Kashmiris’ Inherent Right

Islamabad: Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir, asserted that the right to self-determination is a fundamental and non-negotiable right of the Kashmiri people, acknowledged by global advocates of justice and democracy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during discussions with Kashmiri journalists in Islamabad, Dr. Khan criticized India for its long-standing failure to honor its commitments regarding Kashmir’s self-determination, despite having brought the issue to the United Nations over 77 years ago. He highlighted the ongoing struggle and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people in pursuit of this right.

Dr. Khan accused India of deceit and failing to uphold democratic principles since the conflict’s inception. He condemned the actions taken by India on August 5, 2019, including the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A, which escalated tensions with a severe military clampdown in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Despite these challenges, he noted that the Kashmiri people have resiliently refused to capitulate to Indian demands.

Further, Dr. Khan warned of unexpected developments that may arise in response to the Modi administration’s policies in the region, which include alleged human rights violations by Indian forces. He reaffirmed the united stance of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Kashmir and Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan in supporting Kashmir’s freedom movement.
