Karachi, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement and President of the Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan, has requested prayer leaders to offer special prayers for her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, in Friday congregations. This request comes as Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui prepares for a scheduled visit to meet her sister, who is currently imprisoned in the United States.
According to Central Secretariat Karachi, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui has traveled to Houston, Texas, for the meeting scheduled on December 2-3, 2023. She is accompanied by Senator Talha Mehmood of Jamait Ulema e Islam (JUI), who also plans to meet Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. In Houston, they were hosted by Pakistani Counsel General Ashaar Shehzad.
Senator Talha Mehmood is expected to meet Dr. Aafia Siddiqui on December 1 at the FMC Carswell jail. Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui’s visit with her sister is particularly poignant, as she recalled that during their last meeting, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was brought in chains, and they communicated through a telephone with a glass wall between them. Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui expressed hope that this meeting would be different, allowing for a more personal interaction without the barrier of a glass wall, enabling her to comfort her sister.
Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui’s appeal for special prayers during the Friday congregations is a call for support and solidarity for the early release and safety of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, often referred to as the “daughter of the nation” in Pakistan.
