Doctor’s Rape-Murder in Kolkata: Parents Accuse Police of Bribery and Suppression

Kolkata: The parents of a female doctor, who was raped and murdered in Kolkata last month, have accused the local police of trying to suppress the case. The family joined protesting medical staff at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the deceased was found, and alleged that the police attempted to hastily cremate the doctor’s body to hide evidence.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during the protests at the state-run hospital, the parents claimed that their daughter’s body was discovered on August 9. They also accused a senior police officer of offering them a bribe to keep quiet about the incident. “The police, from the very beginning, tried to hush up the case. We were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while the body was taken for post-mortem examination. Later, when the body was handed over to us, a senior police official offered us money, which we immediately declined,” the father of the deceased doctor stated.

The parents of the postgraduate trainee explained that they joined the protest on Wednesday night to support the junior doctors demanding justice for their daughter. Following the revelation of the incident, protests have spread throughout the state, with individuals from various sectors calling for justice for the victim.
