Lahore: The Punjab Board of Revenue, through its Provincial Disaster Management Authority, has issued an urgent flood advisory for the DG Khan Division, anticipating medium to high-level flash flooding in the hill torrents over the next 72 hours. This warning follows a forecast from the Flood Forecasting Division and has prompted widespread emergency preparations across the region.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the advisory highlights a series of preventative and responsive measures mandated for local government bodies. These measures include ensuring adequate staffing for Disaster Emergency Coordination Offices round-the-clock, coordinating with the Punjab Disaster Management Authority for a unified response, and deploying additional resources to at-risk areas. The authority has also stressed the importance of public awareness, urging the use of electronic and social media for early warning dissemination and safety information.
Further recommendations focus on the structural assessment of water protection infrastructures, establishment of relief camps, and strategic stockpiling of essential supplies such as food and clean water. The advisory also underlines the necessity of preparedness actions including the setup of relief camps and the positioning of disaster response forces ready to act in the event of road closures or significant infrastructural damage.
