Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has voiced significant concern over the ongoing violence and human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, DFP spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal criticized the Narendra Modi-led Indian government for escalating brutalities against Kashmiris, who oppose India’s claim over the region. Iqbal highlighted recent incidents, including the killing of a youth in Doda and the arrest of five young men in Kathua district, as evidence of a severe crackdown under draconian laws. He accused Indian troops of conducting extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and staging fake encounters as tactics to crush the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.
Iqbal called for international human rights organizations to assess the dire situation and act to end the atrocities committed against the Kashmiri population. He also condemned the continuous illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders, human rights defenders, journalists, and activists, particularly those arrested since August 5, 2019.
Furthermore, the DFP spokesman responded skeptically to the Indian Election Commission’s recent announcement of assembly elections in the region, dismissing them as insufficient and not a replacement for the UN-promised plebiscite to determine Kashmir’s future. He criticized the conduct of elections under heavy military presence as an attempt to mislead the international community about the real situation on the ground.
