Geneva, March 08, 2023 (PPI-OT): Hassan Bana, Kashmiri representative on the occasion of the ongoing 52nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva informed the participants about the Indian atrocities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Hassan Bana in his statement read on the occasion welcomed the report of the High Commissioner and commends the concern expressed about long-pending dispute of Jammu and Kashmir. He deplored that the detention of human rights defenders like Khurram Parvez by India in IIOJK is, in fact, the failure of the international community.
Here is the text of his statement:
Mr President!
Kashmir is passing through the darkest period of its history. On one hand, people from all over India are being brought to Kashmir and illegally settled there, while on the other, the inhabitants of this UN recognized disputed territory are not only dislodged of their land and property but also murdered ruthlessly.
On December 15, 2022, the soldiers of Indian army raided a house in North Kashmir’s Kunan-Poshpora village and abducted a 30-year old man Abdul Rasheed Dar. His dead body was handed over to his family on 1st March 2023, in a semi-decomposed form.
Mr. President!
All those who try to expose the human rights violations and cooperate with the UN have been a persistent target of India’s military repression. Eminent Kashmiri human rights defender Khurram Parvez is in prison since November 2021. The prestigious Martin Enalls Award is undoubtedly a recognition of his contribution to the world. However, his incarceration depicts the failure of the international community to defend the defenders.
