Jammu, A detainee was found dead in an apparent suicide at Amphalla Jail in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, marking a grim incident within the correctional facility.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Jagdev Singh alias Michael, who was accused of the brutal murder of his mother and 3-month-old daughter in October 2023 using a sharp-edged weapon, was discovered hanging from his trousers inside his cell at Amphalla Jail. The incident prompted an immediate response from local law enforcement. Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from Police Station Pacca Danga arrived at the scene and transported Singh to the Government Medical College Jammu, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities have conducted a post-mortem examination of the deceased, carried out by a board of doctors. Furthermore, a judicial inquiry has been ordered to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, aiming to understand the events that led to this tragic outcome and to assess the jail’s adherence to protocols related to the safety and well-being of detainees.
This incident has brought attention to the conditions within detention facilities and the mental health of individuals in custody, raising questions about the measures in place to prevent such occurrences and the support available to those facing serious charges.
