Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government of the United Kingdom, Ms. Angela Rayner, to discuss strengthening the bilateral relationship and collaborative efforts in climate action. The meeting highlighted mutual interests in enhancing trade, investment, and the significant role of the British-Pakistani diaspora in fostering closer ties between the two nations.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Dar congratulated Ms. Rayner on her recent appointment and emphasized the importance of the Pakistan-UK partnership in both bilateral and regional contexts. He expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support, particularly in providing duty-free access for Pakistani exports, which bolsters economic links between the countries. Deputy Prime Minister Dar also acknowledged the British-Pakistani community’s contributions to deepening the longstanding relationship.
During the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Dar recalled Ms. Rayner’s visit to Pakistan following the devastating floods in 2022. He articulated Pakistan’s eagerness to collaborate with the UK on climate initiatives and to mobilize international assistance for countries vulnerable to climate impacts. The talks also covered shared priorities such as creating opportunities for youth and boosting bilateral trade and investment.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Rayner congratulated Deputy Prime Minister Dar on Pakistan’s recent election to the UN Security Council. She reiterated the value of the British Pakistani community in bridging the gap between the two countries and enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.
