New York: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for the implementation of United Nations resolutions on the longstanding issues of Kashmir and Palestine, emphasizing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved through denial or repression.

According to Radio Pakistan, Dar made these remarks during the UN Security Council Open Debate on maintaining international peace and security. He highlighted that the Kashmir dispute has persisted for nearly eight decades despite multiple Security Council resolutions advocating for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. He stressed that peace in South Asia is unattainable if attempts are made to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty, which is crucial for regional stability.

On the issue of Palestine, Dar stated that peace in the Middle East is impossible amid ongoing occupation and settlement expansions. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution, as endorsed by Security Council resolution 2803 and emphasized the urgency of addressing the volatile situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

Dar also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy in addressing the Middle East crisis, advocating for restraint and de-escalation to ensure regional stability. He reiterated Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and supporting reforms in the UN Security Council to better represent developing countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that comprehensive reforms in the UN Security Council should reflect the interests of a broader membership and improve its effectiveness, particularly by increasing non-permanent seats for various regions.
