Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing Pakistan’s higher education system, highlighting the importance of maintaining high standards of quality, transparency, and excellence. This statement was made during a committee meeting in Islamabad, where existing guidelines for establishing universities and higher education institutions in the country were reviewed.

According to Radio Pakistan, the committee examined the draft 2026 HEC Regulatory Framework for the Establishment and Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions in Pakistan. During the meeting, relevant stakeholders provided a comprehensive briefing on the proposed policy, which aims to improve the regulatory landscape of higher education.

The committee acknowledged the efforts of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and suggested improvements in certain areas. Deputy Prime Minister Dar instructed the HEC to integrate the committee’s recommendations and present the revised draft to the Ministry of Federal Education. The updated framework will then be forwarded to the Federal Cabinet for approval.
