Deputy PM Dar Reiterates Pakistan’s Dedication to Commonwealth Objectives


Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Commonwealth, highlighting its significant role in addressing global challenges and enhancing member cooperation. During a press conference with Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland, Dar emphasized the importance of resolving disputes among member states and upholding international law.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dar advocated for the Commonwealth’s involvement in expediting the resolution of lingering issues among its members and stressed the enforcement of UN Security Council resolutions. He linked Pakistan’s regional connectivity and trade ambitions directly with the Commonwealth’s connectivity agenda, pointing out mutual benefits in increasing intra-Commonwealth trade to two trillion dollars by 2030.



The Deputy Prime Minister also detailed Pakistan’s initiatives in combating climate change and expressed eagerness to collaborate further with the Commonwealth in developing resilience against climate-induced disasters. His remarks reflected a comprehensive approach to leveraging Commonwealth relations to bolster economic, educational, and environmental frameworks within Pakistan. Commonwealth Secretary General Scotland recognized the resilience of Pakistan following the devastating floods of 2022, reaffirming the Commonwealth’s support during such crises.
